Our team at AFGAS is proud to help sponsor and volunteer at the Missions of Mercy free mobile dental clinic at the First Baptist Church Activities Center in Wilmington from November 3 - November 4, 2023. Missions of Mercy is a nonprofit under the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation and expects to treat 600-800 individuals over two days. According to MOM, its clinics have provided more than $39 million in free care to more than 69,000 North Carolinians since its founding in 2003.
Patients are treated on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 6:00am each day. Upon arrival, patients receive a health screening, x-rays, and an examination by a licensed dentist. Then, the patient and dentist will discuss the recommended treatment plan. Offered dental procedures may include cleanings, fillings, or teeth pulling.
The North Carolina Dental Society was founded in 1856 and is one of the oldest dental societies in the country, representing 4,000 member dentists in North Carolina. Headquartered in Cary, the North Carolina Dental Society is part of the American Dental Association, the nation’s largest dental association, representing 163,000 dentist members.
We are honored to contribute to such an important program through our sponsorship and volunteer hours. Not only does the Missions of Mercy enable people in financial need to receive dental treatment, but it also gives dental students invaluable experience as volunteer providers at the clinic.
